The Sew Creative workshop series Weeks 1 – 3 You will learn to make your own fabric from fibre, or from recycled materials & yarns. Weeks 4 – 6 You will learn embellishment techniques Weeks 7 – 8 You will be able to expand your favorite technique on a solo project.
Week 1 Wet Felt making You will learn the basics of the wet felt making method. Using both processed and raw wool fibre to create a piece of fabric which will then be used to create a simple purse or wallet.
Week 2 Patched work Moving away from the idea that all patchwork must be a quilt, hand stitched, regular in shape and old fashioned to a freer machine sewn ‘pieced’ or ‘patched’ work. Making a new piece of fabric from recycled fabrics.
Week 3 Weaving Using a simple square ‘pin loom’, you will learn how to weave small squares using remnant or recycled yarn or fabric strips. These will be stitched together to create a larger woven piece of ‘fabric’.
Week 4 Punchneedle Punchneedle is a rugging technique which uses yarn or fabric strips pushed through, in this case, a hessian backing. This can then be used as an embellishment for clothing or homewares.
Week 5 Fabric Printing & Painting Using simple printing tools and paint, to enhance garments or create a uniquely patterned fabric.
Week 6 Hand embroidery Learning the use of basic embroidery stitches to create small creative pieces for use as brooches, jewelry and accessories.
Week 7-8 Solo Projects You will have the opportunity to work on your own project using one or a number of the skills learned in the previous weeks.
