Do you have a sewing machine but don't know how to use it? Have you sewn before but it was a looong time ago and you need a reminder on how to thread it? This course is suitable for complete beginners or those who are looking to get back into sewing after a long break A four-week course designed to build your knowledge and confidence to complete your own projects, and progress to a more advanced level of sewing - a great starting point! During the course, we'll make a number of items, repurposing clothes into a range of homewares. Develop confidence in cutting fabric, threading up a machine, stitching seams and other simple sewing techniques. You will complete a project each week, introducing you to a new skill or technique and give you something to take home and be proud of! Projects include: Week 1 - Lavender bag/sachet Learning how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, & the basic stitches, you will make a pretty lavender sachet from vintage fabrics. Week 2 - Cushion cover ~ from a shirt Introducing applique techniques this week, to personalise and style a unique cushion cover. Week 3 - Shopping bag ~ from sheets Charging for carrier bags is now in force, it's handy to be able to make your own shopping bags. French seams and gussets to allow for lots of shopping. Week 4 - Tea cosy/Cafetier cover ~ from a jumper Learn to line items by upcycling a felted jumper and make a padded tea cosy.
